  We at Downs River Kennels take great pride in our raising of dachshunds.

  We have had 30 years experience in the raising of other breeds; Shepherds, Rottweillers, Maltesse and now Dachshunds.

  We enjoyed the raising of these other breeds but in time found this is the breed that intrigued us the most.  They have a character like no other, and bring the most joy and laughter with their tiny but brave little acts of loyalty, and abundant gestures of love and trust.  Who would have thought such a tiny little dog could show so much love, and at the same time want to protect without a thought of their size?

  To us the breed of choice is the Dachshund, without a thought or care they will show love beyond measure.

  We take great care in the raising of our dachshunds so as to get the most from our breeds to only bring out the best of the parents in the offspring.

  We try to select the best pairings as the dachshund is a German breed of dog whose origins date back at least to the Middle Ages.

  The long-bodied, short-legged dogs were originally bred to hunt badgers and are now popular family pets.

  Dachshunds come in different colors and markings. They come in two sizes; standard and miniature version and in long-haired, wire-haired and smooth varieties.

  Breeding dachshunds should only be undertaken by someone with a deep love for, and knowledge of the breed.
